Day 05 – A song that reminds you of someone

Wow, this is a GOOD one. I have so many. I actually have a list of twelve songs for this category. I narrowed them down over and over and it always came down to either Mr. Funny Man by Christofer Drew or Please Come to Boston by Dave Loggins.

Mr. Funny Man isn't for anyone in particular, but we all have someone who, when you hear this song, you think of. It's about someone who tries too hard to get attention, and they end up just annoying.

Please Come to Boston reminds me of my Grandpy (my moms dad) who showed me all kinds of old music. When he died last year he left me a bunch of CD's, ranging from Buddy Holly's greatest hits to one hit wonders like Take a Letter, Maria. I picked this song because its the one I remember us dancing to and singing along with in his old den, and it just reminds me how much he's influenced my taste in music.

Day 04 – A song that makes you sad

Listening to music has never made me sad. My mood chooses the song for me so if I'm sad, the music reflects that. Photograph by Ringo Starr doesn't make me sad, but you can tell how much he misses George (who originally wrote the song in the 70's), and the lyrics really reflect it.

30 Songs in 30 Days, Day 3: A Song That Makes You Happy

A lot of Never Shout Never's music has an upbeat message, but lately it's been dark and sad. Christofer Drew's early songs from before he got signed are all about living life to the fullest, and just being happy. That's why I chose "Happy" by my favorite band.

30 Songs in 30 Days, Day 2: Your Least Favorite Song

I don't come across a lot of songs that I don't like, mainly because I have a short attention span and if I'm not instantly into it, I'll turn it off. But there is one song that I just classify as whiny and a little annoying. Hey There, Delilah by The Plain White Tees isn't one that I HATE but I definitely will change the radio station if it comes on.

Follow this link if you want to hear this song.

30 Songs in 30 Days, Day 1: Your Favorite Song

It's really hard to have a #1 favorite song. My music choices pretty much change daily. But 11th Dimension by Julian Casablancas has been my favorite for quite awhile. I haven't made myself sick of it yet because each time I listen to it I begin to understand the lyrics more.

Book Review: TH1RTEEN R3ASONS WHY

“Get ready, because I'm about to tell you the story of my life, or more specifically, why it ended. And if you're listening to these tapes, you're one of the reasons why.” These are the first words Clay heard from the girl he thought he'd never hear from again. TH1RTEEN R3ASONS WHY by Jay Asher is a book with two different perspectives on the story line. The book begins with High School sophomore Clay receiving a shoe box on his front door containing 7 audio tapes. When he starts playing the tapes he hears the voice of a girl who used to go to his school. At first it takes him a while to actually believe its Hannah Baker talking to him. Why? Hannah Baker committed suicide a few weeks ago. When he puts in tape one he hears her voice again. He finds out that seven people got the tapes before him and when he was finished he had to pass it on the the next person on Hannah's list. If they don't get passed on a second set of tapes will be released to the public. While this won't affect everyone, some people could suffer serious, life ruining, consequences.

The rest of this story is Clay walking around the town listening to Hannah tell him the 13 reasons why she decided to end her life. Evey few sentences the perspective changes from Hannah's tapes to Clays thoughts. He can't imagine what he did. He and Hannah didn't know each other that much, although he wishes they had. But now he'll never have the chance. So for the rest of the night he walks around the town listening to his first loves last words. He goes to the spot of her first kiss, her first (and last) party, her home, and the other people on the list's houses. At some points he wants to stop listening. But the need to know what he did to her over powers everything and he keeps listening.

This was an amazing story. I finished it in one day because I literally couldn't put it down. I actually learned a lot from this book about the signs of suicide. This book was also very sad, mainly because you know that all Hannah wanted was someone to help her and tell her that life was worth living, but theres nothing you can do. Also because right in the beginning you know there won't be a happy ending. She's already killed herself. Clay misses Hannah more and more as the tapes grow on, and I can't tell you how depressing this book was to read. While I personally loved it, I wouldn't suggest it if you're looking for a funny or light hearted book. But if you wanted to try something darker with a mystery and twist, I would DEFINITELY recommend this book to you.
